PHOTO: Northwest margin of Hare Fiord on Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, showing basal red beds (lower left) of Sverdrup rift basin, overlain by light coloured Mississippian evaporites, dark coloured Mississippian-Pennsylvanian marine shales and Pennsylvanian to Permian shelf and reefal carbonates. Valley glaciers with moraines at left-centre feed into Hare Glacier (lower right). Location is about 960km from the geographic North Pole. Graham Davies, in collaboration with Walter Nassichuk, published approximately 28 papers on the geology of this region through 1973 to 1992. Graham also prepared reports on many of the Paleozoic cores drilled by Panarctic and partners in the Arctic Islands through the 1970’s.
